The All-Star Game Charity 5k and Fun Run doesn't start until 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. But packet pickup started Thursday at noon inside KC Live!
And because T-shirts are first-come, first-served, I hoofed over from The Star to get mine shortly before 3 p.m. Believe me, when you ask for "small" shirts at area road races as I do, you're too often out of luck. They get snapped up early.
My move paid off: Got an adult small shirt today that reads "I run for the American League. We will win." Of course, by "small" in America, it's a shirt that almost comes down to my knees. Still, with a timing chip and bib #8, I'll be ready for the heat of Sunday morning - when it's probably around 80 degrees even before the sun gets too high in the sky.
City Council member Jan Marcason also picked up her packet today, but told me she will be walking. "You'll probably beat me," she said with a smile. Hey, I sure better. I'm running that 5k!
