Kansas City will be well represented at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards February in Los Angeles.
The Kansas City Symphony is nominated for a Grammy for its surround sound album "Britten's Orchestra." Kansas City, Kan., native Janelle Monáe is up for two R&B Grammys: Best Urban/Alternative Performance and Best Contemporary R&B Album.
The Symphony was nominated for Best Surround Sound Album and as a bonus, its producer, David Frost, is nominated for Producer of the Year, Classical.
In the Best Contemporary R&B Album category, Monáe's "The ArchAndroid" is up against "Graffiti" by Chris Brown, "Untitled" by R. Kelly, "Transition" by Ryan Leslie and "Raymond V Raymond" by Usher.
Janelle Monáe and Big Boi were nominated in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance for "Tightrope." Other nominees in that category are: "Little One" by Bilal, "... You" by Cee Lo Green, "Orion" by Carolyn Malachi and "Still" by Eric Roberson.
