For more than a year, Brady Vest has been hearing this: What are your plans for Aug. 21, 2017?
That now-soon-to-be-here Monday is getting a lot of love across the U.S. It’s going to be the only total solar eclipse exclusive to the country in its history. This means we’ll see the sun disappear behind the moon, turning daylight into twilight and causing the temperature to drop rapidly and reveal streamers of light through the sky around the silhouette of the moon.
Vest, owner of Hammerpress letterpress and design studio, 500 Southwest Blvd., knew he needed to do something big to recognize this rarity in our universe.
“We set out to do something special that isn’t just a product, but a commemorative,” Vest said.
He and intern Sarah Hinman led the Hammerpress team in creating a print, a postcard and — something new to the studio — a sheet of stamps.
Customers across the country, especially those in the eclipse’s path of totality like the northern parts of Kansas City, have had a totally sunny response to the commemoratives. They’re under the moon about them.
