An author and lecturer’s successful visit to Kansas City in October has led to a second series of appearances.
Amy-Jill Levine will return to the metro on Friday and March 5. Village Presbyterian Church will present the Vanderbilt University professor of the New Testament.
“She has a deep understanding of the Jewish culture Jesus lived in,” says Arlene Raudenbush of the church’s Visiting Scholar Committee. Levine’s speech in October at the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library nearly filled the main floor lobby.
Levine describes herself as a “Yankee Jewish feminist who teaches in a predominantly Protestant divinity school in the buckle of the Bible Belt.” She is the author of “Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi” and others.
On Friday, Levine will speak at 7 p.m. at Village Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village. She also will speak at 9 a.m. March 5.
A combo ticket for Friday’s and Saturday’s appearances is $32. Tickets are available at villagepres.org under the Upcoming Events button, and at the door. Individual-day tickets also are available. For more information, call 913-671-2333.
