I last fertilized my lawn in October. I meant to do it again in May but never got it done. Should I leave it now until fall? Thanks - Richard
Never miss a local story.
Most cool-season grass lawns are lush right now given all the rain and cool temperatures we have had. This late in the spring, waiting until September to fertilize your cool-season grass would be the best option. Even if you used a slow release fertilizer, giving blue or fescue grass any kind of a nitrogen push now could lead to disease problems when the weather turns hot and hopefully drier. Mow high and hold off on watering as long as possible; this will encourage the roots to go deeper. Then come back in the fall with your usual fertilization.
