Question: What are these flowers?

QUESTION: Hi these were given to my wife several years ago. They are very nice but we never got a name. Can you tell what these are from the picture? They came up about a week ago. Thanks, Ken. ............................................ANSWER: These are Surprise Lilies, aka Naked Ladies. They are in the Amaryllis family; the botanical designation is Lycoris squamigera. The leaves come up in the early spring, then die back. The flowers, as you know, come up in late July. Enjoy! Carole - Johnson County Extension Master Gardener
