The Daily Meal, a website covering food and drink topics, has selected “The 101 Best Burgers in America.”
Winstead’s Double Winstead’s was ranked No. 51 on the new list, and the cheeseburger at Town Topic was No. 92.
“The simple act of cooking a patty of ground beef and putting it on a bun is arguably even more American than apple pie, and when it is done properly there are few foods more delicious,” The Daily Meal said.
It first put together a list of nearly 200 burgers from across the country, then looked at online reviews. Its criteria included high-quality beef, proper seasoning, well-proportioned components, and an overall attention to detail — or what some would call “making it with love.” But The Daily Meal didn’t include chains that had expanded outside of their home cities and have many locations.
Regional burgers of note included: The Cozy Burger at the Cozy Inn in Salina, Kan., at No. 58, and The Tap Room Burger at The Schlafly Tap Room in St. Louis which was No. 93
To be more comprehensive, The Daily Meal expanded the list from 40 best burgers in 2013 to 101 this year.
