The golden ale, which Boulevard introduced last year as a tribute to the Royals’ 2014 postseason, should be ready for release by mid-December, according to a blog post by ambassador brewer Jeremy Danner.
The beer is brewed with pale, Munich and honey malts and gets citrusy aroma and flavor from dried orange peel and several varieties of hops, including Lemondrop, Saphir and Northern Brewer. Crown Town Ale is 6.2 percent alcohol by volume and, according to Boulevard, is best when it’s fresh. In other words: If you get your hands on a 750-milliliter bottle, don’t wait 30 years to pop the top. Or even three months.
Crown Town Ale should be available on tap at Kansas City bars and in bottles at local stores. In his post, Danner wrote that Boulevard anticipates higher demand for the beer this year and has increased production. The beer will be distributed to these areas:
Missouri: Greater Kansas City area, Columbia, Jefferson City, Sedalia, Springfield, St. Joseph
Kansas: Greater Kansas City area, Lawrence, Salina, Topeka, Wichita
Iowa: Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City
Nebraska: Lincoln, Omaha
In other Boulevard news, the Kansas City brewery has won its World Series bet with Brooklyn Brewery. The New York brewery has agreed to pour Boulevard beer for a week at its taproom, and a keg of Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale is on the way.
