Kansas City’s Boulevard Brewing Co. and Colorado’s Odell Brewing Co. will feature their new 25th anniversary brew at a collaboration dinner.
The event will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 11 at the new Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar, 4814 Roanoke Parkway.
Their Silver Ale will be offered at a welcoming reception, followed by a five-course “farm-driven” meal by Jax chef Bobby Bowman and pastry chef Kelly Conwell.
First course: Boulevard’s Saison-Brett paired with sardines and octopus.
Second course: Odell’s Trellis Garden Ale paired with curried heirloom squash soup.
Third course: Boulevard’s Long Strange Tripel paired with New England sea scallops.
Fourth course: Odell’s Mountain Standard paired with smoked oil-poached sturgeon.
Fifth course: Boulevard’s Bourbon Barrel Quad and Odell’s Footprint RegionAle paired with black tea and vanilla chiffon cake.
The cost is $65 per person; $5 of each ticket sale will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project in honor of Veterans Day.
Silver Anniversary Ale, a strong American ale, is a collaboration with Odell Brewing in Fort Collins. Both breweries are celebrating their 25th anniversaries.
Two Matchbox bar and grills for Southwest Boulevard?
The Matchbox Bar & Grill opened three years ago at 2853 Southwest Blvd.
Beth Adams had worked as one of Matchbox’s bartenders for a couple of years. When the lease was up for renewal recently, she offered to buy the bar and grill from the owners. But Matchbox closed when a deal couldn’t be worked out for a new lease with the landlord, she said.
Now she has reopened the operation as Matchbox Bar and Grill, just down the block at 2934 Southwest Blvd., a site that also offers more parking.
The new Matchbox, which is now open daily, has the same menu, including burgers, tenderloins, Reuben sandwiches and tacos, as well as lunch and dinner specials. New menu items include Southwest Boulevard egg rolls, French dip sandwiches and Philly club sandwiches. It has a shrimp dinner special on Fridays and a steak dinner special on Saturdays, as well as live music on both nights.
The Matchbox sign is still on the building at the old location. The landlord for that building couldn’t be reached for comment.
