, a wildly popular winter seasonal beer that routinely sells out within hours of its release, has finally made it to Kansas City.
The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium
, 101 E. 13th St. in the Power Light District, received 12 cases (that’s 288 bottles) of Hopslam this morning. General manager Matt Gardner says the bottles will be available at the bar’s 11 a.m. opening for $6.50 each.
Gardner says that, depending on the distributor, Hopslam could be on tap at The Flying Saucer and other local bars sometime next week.
Hopslam is one of those holy-grail brews for beer geeks: The complex beer is ranked“world class” by Beer Advocate
and is brewed with six varieties of aromatic Pacific Northwest hops and honey, for a touch of sweetness.
, a “massive dry-hop addition” of Simcoe hops adds extra flavor to the beer, which bursts with “grapefruit, stone fruit and floral notes.”
In a recentFacebook poll, fans of Bier Station in Waldo picked Hopslam over Boulevard’s Chocolate Ale as the beer they’re most excited to tap in to this winter. Chocolate Ale comes out early next month.
A warning to those who want to try the super-hoppy beer over their lunch break — Hosplam is 10 percent alcohol by volume. Pace yourself.
