Barbecue and jazz help lift KC to No. 6 on list of U.S. tourist destinations

Now the Show-Me-State has scored a spot on another national list, this time for more wholesome reasons.
The travel book publisher Lonely Planet has put Kansas City in the No. 6 spot on its list ofTop 10 U.S. Travel Destinations for 2014.
Lonely Planet cites Kansas City’s barbecue joints, fountains, jazz scene and walkable neighborhoods (the Country Club Plaza, Crossroads Arts District) as reasons for tourists to visit in 2014.
Kansas City’s WWI Museum and “alluring locally owned restaurants and bars” in Westport also scored mentions on Lonely Planet’s list.
Even KCK got a shout-out: Lonely Planet called the burnt ends at Oklahoma Joe’s “amazing.” (The travel site also recommended Arthur Bryant’s and LC’s Bar-B-Q in a recent mini-guide to“Art, jazz and burnt ends in Kansas City.”
Kansas City ranks higher than some notable travel destinations on Lonely Planet’s “Top 10 U.S. Travel Destinations” list. Among them: Las Vegas and Lanai, Hawaii.
Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan’s Gold Coast scored the No. 1 spot, followed by Yosemite National Park in California and Boston. View the complete listhere.
