Chef Celina Tio’s new Crossroads Arts District restaurant, Collection

, opened for business today.

“Thanks to those who came for our 1st service,” Tio

tweeted

at around 1:30 p.m.

Tio, a James Beard Award-winning chef, took over management of Kansas City Cafe, 1532 Grand Blvd., in late November. In March, the owner of

Julian in Brookside told The Star

that her new restaurant, Collection, would serve “American feel-good food” such as pork roll sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, birch beer, lamb shepherd’s pie, seared trout amandine, baked rigatoni and pineapple upside down cake.

Collection is open for lunch (11 a.m.-2 p.m.) on weekdays and dinner (5-10 p.m.) Thursday through Saturday.

Tio also told The Star in March that she wants to open a “casual neighborhood joint” in back of 1532 Grand Blvd. She said The Belfry will serve French press coffee and grab-and-go lunches, along with a dinner and late night menu.
