Way to represent, ladies!
On Monday, Thrillist.com wrote about the 12 most important women in barbecue.
And — fittingly, we think — two Kansas City women made the list.
“The Kansas City Barbeque Society is the real deal,” Thrillist’s Dan Gentile wrote of Kansas City’s Wells. “Nearly 500 barbecue competitions are sanctioned on its rules. That makes 500 barbecue competitions that would be lawless sausage fests without Carolyn.”
As for Adler, also of Kansas City, Gentile notes how her company, founded in 1988, offers more than 250 cookbooks, a dozen of which she’s co-authored herself.
Adler is also half of The BBQ Queens; her partner is Judith Fertig. The duo enter competitions, teach classes and author cookbooks. (But it’s not always about barbecue; last year, they put out a cookbook on grilling pizza).
Women from Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Illinois and Boston round out the rest of Thrillist’s list. The travel and leisure site seems to have an affinity for Kansas City; in the past, we’ve been named to its “essential sandwiches” list, best barbecue cities list, and Missouri was on its best food and drink list.
