Heads up, Boulevard fans: The Kansas City brewery releases several beers on Tuesday. Among them:
▪ Saison-Brett, a limited release in Boulevard’s Smokestack Series, is a spin on taste test-winning Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale. Saison-Brett is dry-hopped with Amarillo hops and bottle conditioned with a wild strain of yeast called Brettanomyces, which gives the beer earthy flavor. Saison-Brett won a bronze medal in the French- and Belgian-style saison category at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival. It comes in 750-milliliter corked bottles and on draft at select Kansas City-area bars.
▪ Love Child No. 5 is a special release sour beer made with a blend of Flanders-style sour red ale that, according to Boulevard, has been “resting in whiskey and wine barrels, stainless steel vessels, and a foeder that held red wine in a former life.” Love Child No. 5 also comes in 750-milliliter corked bottles and has a tart, fruity flavor.
▪ Three other Boulevard brews will be available in 12-ounce cans starting on Tuesday. Look for six-packs of Unfiltered Wheat Beer, Pop-Up Session IPA and Ginger Lemon Radler at local liquor stores. Cans of Boulevard’s new IPA, Heavy Lifting, hit stores late last month.
Note: Distribution of Saison-Brett, Love Child No. 5 and the new Boulevard cans begins on Tuesday, but some Kansas City stores won’t get their shipment until later in the week. The beers arrive in Kansas City first, but will soon be available in the rest of Boulevard’s distribution territory, which covers 30 states and the District of Columbia.
In other beer news, Boulevard’s sister brewery, Ommegang, recently released Three-Eyed Raven, a dark saison ale inspired by HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”
