October is American Cheese Month. The American Cheese Society says, “American Cheese Month is a celebration of North America’s delicious and diverse cheeses, and the farmers, cheesemakers, retailers, cheesemongers and chefs who bring them to your table.”
So I thought I would bring a different cheese to Chow Town readers every day in October. Stay tuned to see what delicious cheeses North America has to offer! There are sure to be some classic favorites and new must-haves that will suit everyone’s tastes.

Woolly Rind is one of Green Dirt Farm’s most popular cheeses. It is a simple aged cheese in the style of Brie or Camembert. Its bloomy white mold rind brings flavors of earth and mushroom to the creamy cheese underneath.
The flavors are relatively mild so Woolly is great for beginners as well as regular cheese eaters. Woolly took third place in its category at this year American Cheese Society competition, right behind one of Green Dirt Farm’s other cheeses. They almost swept the category!
Green Dirt farm is a great local producer that believes that grass-fed sheep produce the most flavorful and healthy milk. They are Animal Welfare Approved and their small herd of sheep produces some of the best sheep’s milk cheese in the U.S. Check out the Green Dirt Farm News Feed for great pairings and suggestion for all their cheeses.
