No. 2: How to approach someone you like

You could use the old standby "I like your shirt/bracelet/breasts." (OK, most women probably won't like the breast one.)

Or try a comment that matches where you are. In the wine section: "Excuse me, do you know what kind of wine would go with duck?"

Gauge the person's mood before approaching. Are they tired, bored or cheerful? Adjust your tone accordingly.

Whatever you do, if you strike out with one person in a group, move on. Do NOT attempt to pick up his or her friend. You will look desperate and the friend will feel second-best.
