The Star’s Food Truck Friday returns with some new choices for eats on the streets

Lucky for Kansas City food-truck enthusiasts, more new concepts continue to join Kansas City’s roving restaurant scene. We counted more than 30 trucks for The Star’s 2014 Food Truck Guide. The Star’s fourth annual Food Truck Friday runs 5 to 8 p.m. in the newspaper’s parking lot at 18th and McGee streets.
On a chilly First Friday in April, I headed to an event hosted by a new food truck association, Elite Street Eats. I was still wearing a winter coat and stamping my feet to keep warm. But what’s weather when you are called to sample shrimp and grits at The Moose Truck, gourmet wood-fired pizzas from Prairie Fire Oven and stuffed wings from Street Wings KC

, the newest in the fleet.

Michelle Franke and her family own Street Wings KC and Little Italy KC, making them one of the first food truck operations with two trucks of a different concept — and absolutely no aspirations of becoming a brick-and-mortar restaurant.

“We love food trucking — meeting people in the street, going to events, knowing corporations and meeting people we would never have met otherwise,” says Franke.
