    Tornado watch is issued for Monday as KC cleans up from Sunday’s severe storms

    As Kansas Citians clean up after Sunday night’s severe storms, another ominous front is taking aim at the metropolitan area. The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch through 10 p.m. on Monday for Kansas City and much of the surrounding area. Thunderstorms are expected to roll in early Monday evening.

    Tomas Young, wounded Iraq war vet, says he will live on for now

    Tomas Young, the paralyzed Iraq war vet who announced earlier this spring that he was ready to die, said that he has decided to live for now. “I decided to go on until I reach a point where it has become too unbearable by my standards,” Young said Monday. “After it becomes too unbearable, then I will take steps to end my life.”

    Some praise for Tyson Jackson and Dontari Poe from a Chiefs newcomer

    The one position group that received little attention from Chiefs general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid during free agency and the NFL Draft was the defensive line. Veteran defensive end Mike DeVito, who joined the Chiefs as a free agent, is impressed with linemates Dontari Poe and Tyson Jackson (pictured).

    Observations from week one of Chiefs’ offseason workouts

    The Chiefs get back to offseason practice this week with three more sessions, the first being on Tuesday. Their first group of practices last week revealed a few new twists, including the Chiefs running a handful of plays from the pistol formation in Thursday’s practice.

    By not acting on Medicaid, Missouri legislature failed to help patients

    “Missouri needs a Medicaid reform plan that brings the most value for our state, including returning our citizens’ hard-earned tax dollars from Washington and addressing the health care needs of Missourians,” writes Herb B. Kuhn of the Missouri Hospital Association. “Let’s focus on what we can accomplish.”

    Kansas City is using facts to more efficiently spend hundreds of millions in tax revenues to deliver better basic services to local residents. Citizen satisfaction reports and a new study show some progress has been made. But much more is needed.
