If XV manages to fulfill his goal of becoming a full-blown hip-hop superstar, the rapper’s fans in Kansas will know that he doesn’t qualify as an overnight sensation. The resident of Wichita has been slowly but steadily inching toward mainstream success for years. The high quality of “Popular Culture,” XV’s most recent mixtape, demonstrates that he possesses much of the talent associated with Kid Cudi and Kanye West. XV’s latest milestone, the five-song “Awesome EP!,” was released in June by Warner Bros. Chase Compton, That Kid Ty and Jet Moran, regional rappers following in XV’s footsteps, open the show.
