Despite another sub-.500 record and a current spot near the American League Central’s cellar, the Royals haven’t looked half bad as of late. Before a 2-8 skid entering the All-Star Break, Billy Butler and company were playing some of their best baseball of the season, notching sweeps of Tampa Bay and Milwaukee and taking two of three from the Cardinals in St. Louis. They’re probably not a playoff-caliber team this year, but with a late-season surge and a little luck, anything’s possible. They’ll have a chance to make up some ground this week during a three-game series with Minnesota. First pitch for Friday’s game is at 7:10 p.m. in Kauffman Stadium.
