Spoiler alert: If you haven't seen "The Shape of Water," there are spoilers ahead.
The fantastical tale of a mute woman falling in love with a sea creature in "The Shape of Water" won the Oscar for Best Picture on Sunday, and people had a lot to say about that.
According to Ad Week, the movie winning Best Picture was the most-Tweeted-about moment of the night, and the most-talked about Oscar moment on Facebook, too.
It was one of the most tweeted-about movies of the night, second only to the animated "Coco."
People have compared "The Shape of Water" to Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." Except this beast lives under water and is never seen waltzing.
People flooded Twitter with fish jokes when "Shape of Water" won.
Others let it be known that they are creeped out by the very thought of a woman hooking up with a fish man.
The "ick" factor is strong with "The Shape of Water," with tweet after tweet after NSFW tweet using the f-word - and it's not "fish."
"The same institution that has handed its top prize to movies about Gandhi, Shakespeare, William Wallace and Forrest Gump opted to honor an outré sci-fi ballad in which an amphibian’s erection is pantomimed in graphic detail," noted Matthew Jacobs for The Huffington Post.
"It’s certainly not the dullest outcome that could have occurred at Sunday's awards."
On Monday, people still seemed conflicted about the win, but its defenders were much more vocal.
"I love @shapeofwater," tweeted Susan Sarandon.
