Outstanding orator: Mila Schmidt, a junior, was chosen as a National Speech and Debate Association Academic All-American.
The award recognizes students who earn 750 points for the association’s degree of Superior Distinction, maintain at least a 3.75 grade-point average, and demonstrate outstanding character and leadership.

Dancing champs: The Southside Girls dance team won hip-hop competition in Division 5 at the state tournament.
The team members are Sophia Edmunds, a senior; Sarah Bono, Kate Hunter, Auriell Maltbia-McKinney, Kinnedy May, Anna Murray, Emily Nowe and Grace Anne Wiley, juniors; Melia Gates, Icil Gittings, Avery Glover and Sarah Waller, sophomores; and Laura Distefano and Maddie Winkler, freshmen.
Kansas State University
Scholarship recipient: Austin Peterson from Liberty has received the K-State Global Campus New Student Scholarship for Distance Education Students.
Peterson is pursuing a master’s degree in business administration through online courses.
Platte County R-3 High School
Winning writers: Four students won top honors in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards for the Missouri region.
Earning Gold Keys were
Becca Beall, Kenzie Clement, Jamie Hill and Reagan Meyer each earned Gold Key awards and their works will advance to New York to be judged for eligibility in national competition.
Kira Holland, Cade McNicholas, Kat Schooler and William York won Silver Key awards.
