Spring is the perfect time to entertain and the Mediterranean-style home that just became available in Shoal Creek Valley is the perfect place to bring family and friends together. It has a large, covered veranda as well as an enclosed stone patio where guests can enjoy a beautiful evening al fresco.
“This home was so wonderfully designed,” said Bridget Oelklaus, who has engaged Keller Williams North to market the five-bedroom, five-bath home at 8529 N. Marsh Ave. in Kansas City. “You can have a party entirely in the lower level and guests will never need to enter the family’s main living area.”
Guests will have plenty to enjoy in the lower-level family room. Quality, designed speakers provide surround sound for watching films on the retractable movie screen or enjoying music in front of the stone fireplace. A large bar area with a refrigerator, wine storage, full-sized sink and dishwasher is open to the family room. During large parties, caterers can use an adjacent room, which has a kitchen sink, additional storage and a prep area.
The lower level also has three full bathrooms, three spacious bedrooms, wine cellar and a home gym that can easily be converted to an extra storage space. There is also a small room completely enclosed in concrete which provides storage and a tornado shelter.
A grand, curving staircase leads directly from the lower level to the salient foyer of this reverse 11/2-story home, priced at $657,900. Just off the foyer are the great room, formal dining room and kitchen. The kitchen features hand-scraped, tongue-and-groove flooring as well as granite counter tops, spacious center island, built-in microwave drawer and walk-in pantry. Large windows flood the entire main floor with sunlight and provide beautiful views of the home’s landscaping.
The main-floor master suite also boasts a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows with two sets of French doors leading out to the backyard’s large patio. The owners’ suite bathroom has two walk-in closets, dual vanities, whirlpool tub, separate shower stall, marble flooring and built-in television.
The oversized three-car garage is a handyman’s dream. In addition to storage cabinets, shelving, extra workspace and a dedicated heater, the floors are coated with a special epoxy floor coating that resists stains and wipes clean. Just inside the back door and garage entrances is a mudroom with a full bathroom for easy cleanup.
Additional features of the home are stucco siding, a Spanish tile roof, stone railings, wrought-iron fencing, in-ground sprinklers, stamped-concrete driveway and beautiful ironwork detailing throughout the interior and exterior. The retractable movie screen, sound system, intercom system and eight televisions stay with the home.
“The builder took special care when building this home,” Oelklaus said. “The home is 2-by-6 construction, extra insulation in the walls as well as between floors. Even the smallest of spaces, such as under the home’s curved staircases, was turned into closets or storage spaces. It’s truly a special home.”
The many neighborhoods of Shoal Creek Valley offer a variety of architectural styles, prices and amenities. The proud new owners of this gracious home in Kansas City will have access to Shoal Creek Valley’s parks, swimming pools, two clubhouses and walking trails that provide fun for all ages and all seasons.
In The Preserve, where Oelklaus’s home is located, The Gate House offers homeowners a banquet room, large kitchen, reading room and screening room with an all-new sound and media center. Its resort-style swimming pool features fountains, spa and cabana. The Gate House offers outdoor entertainment areas on the clubhouse balcony and main-level patio, as well as a barbecue pavilion and gardens with walking paths.
The Shoal Creek Valley Community offers seven distinct neighborhoods wherein the residents in The Village area of Shoal Creek Valley gather at The Park House, which offers a clubhouse with full kitchen, fireplace, plasma television and an outdoor patio for entertaining with a barbeque and fire pit. In The Meadows at The Village, homeowners enjoy The Village Park and Pavilion that features an open-air picnic shelter, one-acre Neighborhood Park with a stone barbecue grill, stone table and chairs and lots of open green space.
“Over the last two years our residents have used these facilities for private functions on an average of every four days,” said Tom Johnson of Keller Williams Realty, who markets Shoal Creek Valley with Edie Waters of Keller Williams Realty.
The multimillion dollar family-friendly water park next to The Park House features a zero-entry toddler pool and two huge water slides, lazy river, suntan island, splash park and ample open and covered seating. To top it all off, yet another pool offers a serene, secluded environment with waterfall, cabanas, restrooms and changing areas.
Shoal Creek Valley provides great shopping and is in the award-winning Liberty School District. Clayview Country Club, a private club, is on site, along with Cheddars Restaurant and Mosaic Life Center. The Shoppes at Shoal Creek and Shoal Creek Valley Plaza offer many business and recreational services and the Shoal Creek Golf Course meanders through the community.
“I absolutely love Shoal Creek Valley because it truly is a community,” Oelklaus said. “The neighbors are all very friendly and they get together often to socialize. We’ve been up to The Gate House to decorate the Christmas tree together, had Easter egg hunts with the Shoal Creek Valley families and all gotten together for New Year’s Eve.”
However, Oelklaus’ favorite holiday at Shoal Creek Valley has to be Fourth of July.
“We can sit out on the front porch with the neighbors and watch two nearby fireworks shows,” Oelklaus said. “This front porch is just a wonderful place to be.”
