What a year it’s been! As Rodrock Development looks back on a truly stellar 2016, it’s hard to know which part of the year was the favorite highlight. Was it the sold-out crowds at the Home Show with Chip and Joanna Gaines? A Spring Parade of Homes so full of awards that Rodrock Development believed it impossible to top … until the Fall Parade of Homes stunned everyone with record wins? Or was it the leaps and bounds that The Darol Rodrock Foundation made in getting the word out and improving the lives of area foster-care children?
March was a huge month at Rodrock Development – and for the Kansas City homebuilding industry as a whole – with the 67th annual Greater Kansas City Home Show. Rodrock Development was the presenting sponsor for a truly stellar show that was held from March 18-20. This year’s event drew more than 30,000 attendees, the biggest crowd since 2007!
With the likes of Pete Nelson of Animal Planet’s “Treehouse Masters” and Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s hit “Fixer Upper,” it’s easy to see why attendees swarmed to Bartle Hall. This year’s Home Show had something for everyone.
After speaking to enthralled crowds in 2015, Chip and Joanna returned for yet more fun. Chip and Joanna have partnered to flip, remodel and fix up homes for the last 13 years in Waco, Texas. Their speaking sessions were sold out, packed to standing room only.
Never miss a local story.
And in an exciting addition this year, Darol Rodrock Homes built a tiny farmhouse – at about 700 square feet – as the perfect display piece to feature Joanna Gaines’ distinctive flair. Show attendees delighted in touring the adorable mini abode with its shiplap, barn doors, farm sink, soaker tub and other design elements that paid homage to Joanna’s aesthetic.
There was little time to rebound from Home Show fun, however, before the Spring Parade of Homes arrived. Rodrock Development has been taking part in the Spring Parade of Homes since 1983 and was immensely proud that this year marked 32 years of consecutive wins. Eight homes total – in Stonebridge Park, Stonebridge Trails, the Greens of Chapel Creek and Forest View – were praised for outstanding home design and architecture during this year’s Spring Parade.
It was arguably one of the biggest Parades Rodrock Development had taken on, and as summer heated up, the team wondered how they’d ever top its success. But as the heat rose, so did home sales. In fact, sales topped 2015’s numbers by a healthy margin and didn’t even slow as the leaves began to turn colors and the temperatures dropped.
In fact, fall was a vibrant season at Rodrock Development. Outpacing the success of the Spring Parade, Rodrock Development enjoyed its most winning parade yet, with 15 incredible homes garnering awards in the 2016 Fall Parade of Homes.
Models in Stonebridge Meadows, Stonebridge Trails, Stonebridge Park, Forest View, Arbor Lake, and The Greens of Chapel Creek were praised for outstanding home design and architecture.
“This year truly was incredible,” says Brenda Sanders, President of Rodrock & Associates, Realtors. “We had 10 communities showcasing 37 fantastic models – from single-family homes to maintenance-provided villas. Arguably our largest Parade to date, we’re so thankful to our builders for going above and beyond. They deserved those wins!”
In total, Rodrock Development won nine Distinctive Design Awards – which focuses on interior design and architecture – including first-place wins for Wynne Homes in Stonebridge Meadows, James Engle Custom Homes in Stonebridge Park, Robert A. Washam Construction in Arbor Lake, James Engle Custom Homes in The Hills of Forest View, and Dreams & Design Building in The Greens of Chapel Creek.
Four homes garnered the Runner-Up award, including JFE Construction in Stonebridge Trails and in The Hills of Forest View, as well as Robert A. Washam Construction, Inc., in Stonebridge Trails and James Engle Custom Homes in The Greens of Chapel Creek.
But not to be outdone, The Darol Rodrock Foundation was also hard at work – continuing a successful partnership with Sporting KC and underwriting the “C” You At The “K” program with Royals General Manager Dayton Moore. But, as Darol Rodrock promises, the best is yet to come.
“This past year has been one for the books. But I can’t wait for homebuyers, agents, and those in the foster-care community to see what spectacular plans we have in store for 2017!”
