Now through Aug. 31, developer Craig Porter with Porter Communities is partnering with Homes for Heroes, a network of affiliates with real estate-related service providers who offer substantial rebates and discounts to the heroes who serve our nation and its communities every day.

Porter is making this special offer in honor of Matt Mason of Kearney, a member of the Navy SEAL Team 6 who lost his life fighting in Afghanistan.

These heroes, who include military personnel, firefighters, law enforcement officers, healthcare professionals and others who make our communities a better place to live, will receive a $5,000 discount on the purchase of a new home in the residential communities of Harbor Lake and Lake Meadows in Smithville, and Jamestowne Village and MariMack Villas in Kearney.

“There is no way we can ever re-pay these people for their service to our country,” Porter said. “This is just a small gesture of appreciation from the Porter family.”

The Harbor Lake and Lake Meadows communities are both located on the north edge of Smithville.

Homes in Harbor Lake encompass many designs including reverse 11/2-story, two-story and several split plan options priced from the $180,000s to the $300,000s. Some back up to a wildlife preservation area on the Corps of Engineers land surrounding Smithville Lake, ensuring a heightened sense of privacy, frequent glimpses of wildlife, mature trees and picturesque views.

In addition to its proximity to Smithville Lake, Harbor Lake features a community pool, nearly one mile of hard-surfaced trail, a community lake and more than 20 acres of dedicated open space.

“When buyers find out about the amenities available here, they automatically assume the homes are priced out of their reach,” Porter said. “When they learn our homes start in the $180,000s, they’re very pleasantly surprised.”

Lake Meadows homes, priced from the $150,000s to $170,000s, are primarily three- and four-bedroom, three-bathroom plans with features such as custom cabinets and covered decks.

Both communities are less than a mile from Smithville Lake, with its wide variety of activities such as the award-winning trail system, fishing, boating, camping and the Paradise Pointe Golf complex featuring two championship golf courses.

In Kearney, the Jamestowne Village community, located less than a mile from the award-winning Kearney K-12 schools, encompasses several spacious reverse 11/2-story, ranch and two-story plans priced from the $250,000s to the $300,000s, and walkout lots backing to a wooded area are still available.

The Villas of MariMack is a maintenance-provided golf community offering reasonably priced homes starting from the $180,000s and featuring universal design concepts that allow people to “age in place.”

Both communities are only a short drive to nearby hospitals, major sporting complexes and shopping districts in the metropolitan area, and Kearney’s small-town atmosphere provides residents with a cornucopia of essential lifestyle services.

“The value that each of these communities brings to the Kansas City marketplace is amazing,” Porter said, “and they fit right into the needs, desires and lifestyles that people are looking for in a residential community these days. Additionally, those deciding to take advantage of the numerous rebates and discounts offered through the Homes for Heroes program will find achieving the dream of homeownership even easier and more cost effective.

The benefits of the program include:

Substantial savings/rewards on the sale and/or purchase of your home.

Discounted lending fees on purchases or refinances with a HFH preferred lender.

Discount on private home inspections with HFH preferred home inspection company.

Discount on closing fee when using HFH preferred title company
