Date: 6/27/99 00:02
Michael Reynolds, a biographer who has been writing about Ernest Hemingway for more than 25 years, will speak July 8 at Unity Temple on the Plaza.
Reynolds will deliver the Kansas City Library's Sosland lecture on "Hemingway as American Icon." His appearance will be the first event in a local series celebrating "Hemingway at 100."
The biographer's latest work, Hemingway: The Final Years (reviewed elsewhere in this section), concludes his examination of the life and art of the Nobel Prize-winning writer who spent part of his early career at The Kansas City Star.
Hemingway: The Final Years, the fifth volume in Reynolds' major work, covers the years 1940-1961, the period during which Hemingway wrote The Old Man and the Sea and several other late works. Reynolds also is scheduled to sign copies of his biography.
The lecture is at 7:30 p.m. at Unity Temple, 707 W. 47th St. For a complimentary ticket, call the Central Ticket Office, 235-2700; after reservations have been made, tickets can be picked up at the Plaza Library, 4801 Main St.; the South Library, 201 E. 75th St.; or the Unity Temple.
The "Hemingway at 100" observance is co-sponsored by the Kansas City Public Library, The Kansas City Star, the Writers Place and the Fine Arts Theatre.
