Plant some seeds of support

Who needs my help? Harvesters
How can I help? Harvesters, the food bank for the Kansas City area, and the Garden Writers Association of America are starting a program called Plant a Row for the Hungry. Volunteers are asked to plant an extra row of vegetables or fruits to donate to Harvesters.
When will I be needed? Barrels for produce donations will be placed at participating garden stores throughout the area in mid-May. Harvesters will send its trucks to pick up the produce every couple of days during the growing season. Or you can take your donations to Harvesters, 3801 Topping Ave.
What are the other details? Plant and donate fruits and vegetables that keep well: beets, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupe, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, onions, parsley, peas, peppers, pole lima beans, spinach, summer squash, tomatoes, turnips, watermelon, winter squash and zucchini.
Where can I get more information? Contact Andrew Johnson, food and fund drive manager, at InfoRequest@harvesters.org. Find details, including the list of participating garden stores and links to the Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City, on the Harvesters’ Web site, harvesters.org.
