Kelly's Westport Inn has been a staple in Kansas City for 70 years. Randal Kelly started working at the Westport Inn in 1947 and soon became a partner. In 1977, the name was changed to Kelly’s Westport Inn and now his two sons, as well as two grandchildren, are keeping the tradition going.

Police arrested dozens of low-wage workers protesting at the intersection of Meyer and Troost Avenue in KCMO Tuesday night, November 29 as protesters sat in the street and blocked the traffic. Hundreds of restaurant workers, child care workers as well as other concerned citizens participated in the “Fight for 15” protests at difference locations in Kansas City through out the day.
Kansas City's first board game cafe, Pawn and Pint, had a soft opening Saturday at 221 Southwest Boulevard in the Crossroads District. Owner Edward Schmalz said for $5, customers will be able to choose from over 600 board games and have a comfortable place to play and stay as long as they want. A former middle school teacher, Schmalz, was inspired by the learning he saw between students as they played games and decided to embark on fundraising and open his cafe. Schmalz hopes to have a full kitchen and a liquor license by next spring.
Eddie V's plans 4 p.m. Oct. 24 opening at 700 W. 47th St. Menu items will include crab fried rice, Norwegian salmon, Chilean sea bass and steaks.

Heavy rains Friday night caused flash flooding in the Westport area which flooded roads and overwhelmed drainage systems in the area. At Freebirds World Burrito, 554 Westport Rd., employees had to deal with water coming up through the floor drains and the toilets, flooding the eatery. Employees including Sydney Griffin and Justin Laikart used long-handled squeegees to clear the water from the restaurant. Video by Tammy Ljungblad
