Area food establishments cited for health code violations

The Kansas Department of Agriculture cited these operations for six or more critical health code violations. Most critical violations are corrected at the time of the inspection.
• The Big Biscuit, 5400 W. 95th St., Prairie Village, had six critical violations during a Dec. 15 routine inspection. They included an employee handling dirty dishes and then cleaning glassware without washing hands between tasks.
“We continue to work on the necessary steps to ensure proper food safety. The violations have all been addressed and handled properly,” said managing partner Jason Paetzold.
• Bobo Chinese, 1471 E. 151st St., Olathe, had seven critical violations during a Dec. 7 inspection. They included a container of raw chicken stored above raw, ready-to-eat onions and cut lettuce in the cooler. A manager had no comment.
• Fire Wok, 5820 Johnson Drive, Mission, had 11 critical violations during a Dec. 13 routine inspection. They included 11 live roaches on glue traps, 15 live roaches in back of a cooler and 20 fresh mouse droppings inside a cabinet under the hand sink in an unused bathroom (last pest control treatment at the time of the inspection was dated Nov. 28).
“We take the health and safety of our customers very seriously. All the violations have been corrected,” said manager Bonnie Huynh. “We removed all the plumbing fixtures from that bathroom and it is now used for storage.”
• Fred P. Ott’s Bar Grill, 6700 College Blvd., Overland Park, had seven critical violations during a Dec. 14 follow-up inspection. They included an employee handling raw chicken and then changing gloves without washing hands between tasks. A manager had no comment.
• Meadowbrook Golf Country Club, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, had nine critical violations during a Dec. 14 routine inspection. They included raw beef stored above raw salmon in a cooler. It had no critical violations during a Dec. 27 follow-up inspection.
The club implemented new policies “and upon re-inspection we were fully compliant with no violations,” said food and beverage director Brian Welch.

The Environmental Health Protection Division of the Clay County Public Health Center cited these operations for three or more “priority” violations.
• China Gourmet, 882 S. Missouri 291, Liberty, had three priority violations during a Jan. 3 inspection. They included mold on sauce in a walk-in cooler. Through an interpreter, the owner said she had just taken over the restaurant space.
• West Lake Chinese Restaurant, 101 N. U.S. 169, Smithville, had three priority violations during a Jan. 3 inspection. They included an employee not using soap when washing hands. A restaurant employee said all the violations had been corrected.

The Platte County Health Department cited these operations for six or more critical health code violations.
• Country Cookin’ Cafe, 524 Branch St., Platte City, had six critical violations during a Dec. 18 inspection. They included out-of-date tuna, chicken and ham salad.
“Someone just hadn’t thrown the containers out. We watch that and will just have to watch it closer,” said assistant manager Ruth Mary Clemens.
• Dibella’s Pizza and More, 14523 N.W. 74th St., Parkville, had six critical violations during a Nov. 27 inspection. They included two plastic containers no longer easily cleanable.
“In regards to any of those things, we fix them right there,” said owner Alan Hoambrecker.
• Main Street Galleria and the Upstairs TeaRoom, 501 Main St., Weston, had nine critical violations during a Dec. 19 inspection. They included excessive food buildup inside microwaves, shelving and a beer refrigerator.
“She did come back and we got a clean report,” said spokeswoman Crystal Hall.
The operation didn’t have any critical violations during a Jan. 3 follow-up inspection.
• Sharp’s Market, 18305 N. Missouri 45, Weston, had eight critical violations during a Dec. 19 inspection. They included food buildup on the meat saw, knives, sharpener, slicer and meat grinder.
“Everything has been corrected. We have been re-inspected and passed,” said manager Mike Sharp.
It had one critical violation during a Jan. 3 follow-up inspection.
