About “Last Knight”
Just when you thought the Transformers movies couldn’t get any cheesier comes news from the BBC that the next one will travel back to King Arthur’s time. “Forsooth, good Bumblebee, wouldst thou partake in a joust with yon Decepticon?” Oh, the possibilities. Apparently Michael Bay is shooting some scenes for next June’s “Transformers: The Last Knight” on Britain’s Isle of Skye, where actors have been spotted wearing medieval garb and riding horses. The theory goes that the mythology of the Autobots and the Decepticons is somehow tied in with the legend of the great king. That might explain the inclusion of Anthony Hopkins in the cast, as well as that Excalibur sort of blade on the latest poster.
Hail to the chief
Never miss a local story.
Folks who may not be thrilled with the new Obama biopic “Southside With You,” take heart: Filming is expected to begin next spring on a biopic about Ronald Reagan, says Variety. It will be directed by Sean McNamara, who brought us “Soul Surfer,” the true story of the girl who returned to the waves after losing her arm to a shark. “Reagan” will cover the 40th president’s life, from his teenage years through his inauguration in 1981, as seen through the eyes of a KGB agent. And, get this, when McNamara was 18, he worked as a sound technician at that inauguration ceremony.
Once again, the small screen will be adapting hits from the big screen, and they’re all about gangsters. Variety reports that Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning “The Departed” will become a drama series for Amazon. The action will move from Boston to Chicago, where a young cop infiltrates a Latino gang and battles the gang’s plant in the police department. Like “Departed,” it’s inspired by the 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller “Infernal Affairs.” Meanwhile, Deadline Hollywood reports that Chris O’Dowd will take on John Travolta’s role in Epix’s “Get Shorty” adaptation, about a gangster looking to make it in Hollywood.
