New movies opening this week

“Guardians of the Galaxy”

Opens at 7 p.m. Thursday

The Marvel Comics space superhero team comes to the screen, starring Chris Pratt as the pilot leading a squad of misfits, including a talking raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper). Rated PG-13 | Time: 2:02

“Get On Up”

“The Help” director Tate Taylor takes on the life of the legendary James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, starring Chadwick Boseman (who played Kansas City Monarch-turned-Brooklyn Dodger Jackie Robinson in “42”). Rated PG-13 | Time: 2:18

“Boyhood”

Opens Friday

Writer/director Richard Linklater couldn’t have known where 12 years of shooting this story would lead, following a boy and his family (played by Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke and Lorelei Linklater) across time. But we are blessed that he did. Rated R | Time: 2:43

“Mood Indigo”

Opens Friday

An independently wealthy young man laments that he cannot find love. Enter Audrey Tautou, the woman of his dreams. A visual feast from director Michel Gondry (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “The Science of Sleep”). No MPAA rating | Time: 1:34. French, with English subtitles
