As kids search for activities to escape the summer heat, movie theaters offer free or low-priced films for the whole family:

Cinemark: The Summer Movie Clubhouse presents kid-friendly films at 10 a.m. and noon Mondays through Thursdays at Cinemark Merriam and Palace on the Plaza. The series of 10 movies starts Monday with “Night at the Museum” and concludes Aug. 7 with “Rio 2.” Admission is $1, or see all 10 films with a $5 punch card.

Dickinson: The Summer Vacation Movie Series begins June 9 with movies at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Showings are scheduled at Dickinson’s Eastglen, Great Mall, Northglen, Palazzo and Westglen theaters through July 31. Movies include “The Smurfs 2,” “Hotel Transylvania” and “Despicable Me 2.” Admission is $2; season tickets cost $8 for eight shows or $16 for all 16.

The Legends: The Free Summer Movie Series starts at 10 a.m. Tuesday and runs Tuesdays through Thursdays through Aug. 7. The series offers two movies (one G and one PG) each week, starting with “Horton Hears a Who” and “Madagascar 3.”
