In his directorial debut, Chris “Captain America” Evans stars with Alice Eve in this tale of Manhattan, a man and woman who meet by chance when she misses her subway train and end up spending the long night in various adventures.
All but one critic hated it. The positive, to be fair:
▪ Katie Walsh, Tribune News Service: “It’s the more realistic, darker, sadder version of the fantasy about meeting that perfect someone by chance.”
Never miss a local story.
And some of the negative:
▪ Scott Foundas, Variety: “A missed train sets the stage for Chris Evans’ directorial debut … but dramatically speaking, this talky, contrived and ultimately tedious actors’ exercise never leaves the station.”
▪ Chuck Bowen, Slant magazine: “Another film about dreamy artist types meeting cute and wandering the iconic cityscapes of New York City throughout a long night, exchanging exhaustingly precious, theoretically searching witticisms. The setup is so familiar that frustration sets in before the title has barely faded from view.”
