Ryan Lochte is switching out his Speedo for some dancing shoes.
ABC revealed on Tuesday morning’s “Good Morning America” that the Olympic swimmer will be a cast member on season 23 of “Dancing with the Stars.” Fellow Olympian Laurie Hernandez, who’s also joining the show, appeared with Lochte on the morning show for the announcement of their partners and the full cast.
Lochte, who ended his Rio Olympics appearance in disgrace by being charged with falsely reporting a crime, will partner with Cheryl Burke. In an interview after the announcement, Lochte spoke about his fabricated robbery story, saying “I want to move forward… we’ve been talking about this for way too long.”
Hernandez, who will dance with Val Chmerkovskiy, may have a leg up on the other cast members with the rhythmic skill she’s developed in floor routines as a gymnast. She might even follow in the footsteps of season eight winner and fellow gymnast Shawn Johnson.
Other notable cast members include talk show host Amber Rose, rapper Vanilla Ice and former governor of Texas (and former Republican presidential candidate) Rick Perry.
The rest of the cast is rounded out with Maureen McCormick of “Brady Bunch” fame (Marcia), actress Marilu Henner (“Taxi”), singer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Terra Jole from “Little Women LA,” actor Jake T. Austin (“Wizards of Waverly Place”), former Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, race car driver James Hinchcliffe and country singer Jana Kramer.
The new season premieres at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 on ABC.
