How do you top a gold-medal-winning year? If you’re Olympic ice dancer Charlie White, you take your long-time girlfriend to Hawaii and ask her to marry you.
And fellow ice dancer Tanith Belbin said yes.
On Tuesday, Charlie, 26, posted an Instagram photo of himself with Tanith with the big news.
“Couldn't ask for a more beautiful setting for the best time in our life! Hashtag she said yes!!!” he wrote.
It’s been a big year for Charlie. He and his professional partner, Meryl Davis, won the gold medal in ice dancing at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Then they competed against each other with different partners on “Dancing With the Stars.”
Meryl and Maksim Chmerkovskiy won “DWTS,” in case you missed it.
Tanith, 29, who won an Olympic silver medal in 2006, has dated Charlie for more than five years.
Meryl took to Twitter to congratulate them on their big news.
“Congrats to these two! Beautiful girl, beautiful (ring). Good work @CharlieaWhite," she tweeted.
Apparently the news that Charlie and Meryl are not a couple in real life broke a lot of hearts on Twitter, where one fan wrote: “possibly the most devastating news this morning is charlie white is engaged to not meryl davis.”
