We suspect that Brooke Burke-Charvet wishes that she could take her words back. But she was only saying what so many others are thinking about the job sports reporter Erin Andrews did co-hosting “Dancing With the Stars.”
The show’s Season 18 concluded Tuesday. (Heads-up, we’ll name the winners below.) And let’s just say that fans are not sold on Andrews, who was hired after Burke-Charvet was suddenly and inexplicably let go before the beginning of the season.
Asked about Andrews, Burke-Charvet told E! on Tuesday, “I'm not sure they made the right choice — I won't get into that.
“But I'm so fortunate that my fans are so loyal and supportive and, you know, I have no hard feelings. I wish them all a huge success, but I think I did everything I could do in the ballroom and I think it was a good time to move on.”
Now that this season’s mirrored disco-ball trophy has been awarded to Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis and her pro partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, speculation can begin on whether Andrews will be asked to return next season. She’s had a bumpy ride, which she herself has acknowledged.
A few weeks ago she gushed over the possibility that contestant James Maslow and his pro partner Peta Murgatroyd might be romantically involved.
“Can you tell us you’re dating?” Andrews told them during a post-performance interview. “I want a ‘Dancing With the Stars’ baby! You’re so adorable.”
Maslow didn’t enjoy the question, telling NBC’s Today show: “I like Erin on a personal level, (but) on a professional level, she could be a little bit more creative.
“We’ve expended that whole Peta-and-James thing. I’m (only) 23-years-old. I think Erin’s going to have a baby long before I will.”
Said Andrews later: “From a sports broadcaster perspective, it was bad on me.”
Then there was a little comment she made to pro dancer Tony Dovolani, who got a little long-winded during an on-air interview. “Do you want to just take my mic and do the job for me?” Andrews asked him.
Fans of the show on Twitter are of two minds when it comes to Andrews.
Some like her.
“Erin Andrews is the greatest thing that has ever happened to @DancingABC #DWTS”
“The only reason Dancing With the Stars is tolerable to watch is because Erin Andrews is the guest host”
“It's about time!!! Woo-hoo!!! Way to go Maks (and Meryl)!!! SN: Please do NOT bring Erin Andrews back to co-host.”
“I'm sorry but can Erin Andrews please go away from dancing with the stars... Gah she's irritating as hell...”
“Dear, @ABCNetwork please makes this the last #DWTS show for Erin Andrews.
Head judge Len Goodman, who has appeared on the show from the start, dropped a bombshell during Tuesday’s finale, suggesting that he might not be back next season.
Dear ABC, please make sure he comes back.
