Add Oprah Winfrey to the growing list of people firing back at Donald Sterling, the Clippers owner allegedly caught on tape making heinously racist comments about African-Americans.
, which broke the Sterling story over the weekend, caught up with Oprah while she was leaving the CBS building in New York and asked if she had any advice for Sterling.
She didn’t have advice but she did say this: “We're off the plantation! The plantation days are over!”
She went on to say that the idea of Magic Johnson buying the Clippers “would be really cool.”
That’s a thought that’s been floating around since the scandal broke, since Sterling himself allegedly mentioned Johnson by name in the controversial conversation taped by Sterling’s girlfriend, or whatever she is.
Monday night at a fundraiser, Johnson denied reports that he was interested in buying the team.
But, he told theChicago-Tribune
: “I am always going to fight for African-Americans, as well as Latinos ... minorities. I am going to fight for them to the death. That’s where I invested my money. That's who I hire.”
TMZ asked Oprah if she would be interested in buying the Clippers, but she laughed off the idea.
