is trying to adopt another child from Africa.
A week after telling Malawi'sThe Nationnewspaper that her youngest son, David
, "should have a Malawian brother or sister," the singer has set a plan in motion to adopt from the impoverished country.
An official at the Malawi welfare department confirmed to the Associated Press that the 50-year-old superstar, who divorced second hubbyGuy Ritchie
last year, has filed adoption papers. A second source told the AP that Madge and David will be visiting Malawi as soon as this weekend — and Madonna could have her adoption case heard in court early next week.
In 2006, Madonna began adoption proceedings for then 13-month-old David, whose father put him in an orphanage following the death of his wife. Malawi previously banned non-residents from adopting — despite having an estimated one million children in the country orphaned by AIDS. A Malawian court finally approved the adoption of David last year.
Madonna, who has recently been linked to 22-year-old modelJesus Luz, also has a 12-year-old daughter Lourdes (with ex-boyfriend Carlos Leon) and 8-year-old son Rocco (with Ritchie).
