DiGiorno Pizza’s lesson this week: When you make a mistake on social media, it’s very hard to walk it back.
That lesson came on Tuesday when the pizza company sent out an unfortunate tweet using the hashtag, #WhyIStayed.
The hashtag sprang up this week in the aftermath of the Ray Rice domestic abuse controversy as an online forum for survivors of abusive relationships.
But DiGiorno’s social media person apparently didn’t realize that when it sent out a tweet that said: “#WhyIStayed. You had pizza.”
The backlash was immediate and the company quickly removed the tweet and apologized, tweeting “a million apologies.”
No word on whether the company’s social media person is looking for a new job today.
