The more you plumb the great disasters that have befallen humanity, the more you see how often they were acts of man rather than acts of God.
“Black Blizzard” (7 p.m., History) retells a story that many Kansans already know — how in the ’30s much of the Sunflower State was turned into a gigantic dust cloud that drifted across the country and wiped out thousands of farms.
But it wasn’t Mother Nature’s doing so much as a lack of agricultural know-how, as this program explains, using interviews with Dust Bowl survivors, as well as computer simulations and re-enactments that dramatize the great storm.
MONDAY
“My Own Worst Enemy” (9 p.m., NBC, KSHB) stars Christian Slater as a rough, aggressive spy who somehow can be reprogrammed into a decent, Midwestern suburban dad whenever the government wants to.
The pilot episode, which I reviewed in Saturday’s FYI (visit my TV Barn blog if you missed it), was a lot better than I thought it would be.
TUESDAY
“Eli Stone” returns (9 p.m., ABC, KMBC-9) to a new time slot and high expectations, if the caliber of guest stars (Sigourney Weaver, Katie Holmes) is any sign.
The show is obviously trying to retain “Boston Legal” viewers who kept that show going on Tuesday nights longer than anyone would have guessed.
If you’re new to the show, it stars Jonny Lee Miller as a brainy lawyer who has wild visions that may or may not mark him as destined for greatness.
WEDNESDAY
“Chocolate News” (9:30 p.m., Comedy Central) features David Alan Grier as the fake news anchor for this at-times hilarious hodgepodge of “The Daily Show,” “Colbert Report” and “Chappelle’s Show.” Grier’s impersonation of Maya Angelou is not to be missed.
FRIDAY
Two new shows, both starting with the letter “C,” both names you’ll recognize, premiere. “Crusoe” (7 p.m., NBC, KSHB) retells the classic tale with new eyes, while “Crash” (9 p.m., Starz) is inspired by the Oscar-winning best picture and is the first original drama series to air on the Starz movie channel. Look for my review in Friday’s FYI.
