Aaron Barnhart’s what to watch

More News

MONDAY

“Heroes” (7 p.m. preview, 8 p.m. premiere, KSHB) returns after a long hiatus with a catch-up hour at 7 and an episode at 8 that seems to reset the characters in a new game, where the stakes are much higher than before. I especially enjoyed the new foil for Hiro (Masi Oka), who looks like she was torn out of an anime program.

“CSI: Miami” (9 p.m., KCTV-5) resolves that cliffhanger from last season, in which Horatio (David Caruso) seemed to have been shot to death, by the second commercial.

TUESDAY

“The Mentalist” (8 p.m., KCTV-5), one of the more promising new shows of the fall, stars Simon Baker (“The Guardian”) as a former TV psychic and man of few words who’s making amends for his shady past by helping solve crimes using his powers of observation.

WEDNESDAY

“Gary Unmarried” (7:30 p.m., KCTV-5), an unjustly ripped sitcom stars the unnaturally ripped comedian Jay Mohr as a single dad. It’s not quite up to “Reba” quality, but this is CBS. It’ll be worth a look.

THURSDAY

“Survivor: Gabon” (7 p.m., KCTV-5). Andy Dehnart, my friend who runs the reality blurred blog, got to observe the filming of the new “Survivor.” He says keep your eye on Dan, the lawyer from Boston, and Susie, the hairdresser from Iowa.

“Ugly Betty” (7 p.m., KMBC-9). What do Lindsay Lohan, Regis Philbin and New York City have in common? They’ll all be making an appearance on the season premiere of “Ugly Betty.”
