What to watch this week

More News

TUESDAY
Two pieces of good news for fans of the Canadian import “Flashpoint”: The show was just picked up for 13 more episodes, which will air later this season. And in case you missed this summer CBS series focusing on a tactical response unit and co-starring Hugh Dillon and Enrico Colantoni, the first season is out today on DVD.

WEDNESDAY
“Mary Queen of Shops” (8 p.m., BBC America) adapts Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant-reboot concept, inevitably I suppose, to broken-down retail stores. Mary Portas, a marketer with a tart tongue, walks into unpopular boutiques and, after quarreling with the owner for a half-hour or so, persuades him/her to do the simple but necessary things to make it work.

THURSDAY
“Meet the Past” (8:30 p.m., KCPT) highlights Crosby Kemper’s library talks with famous local figures. These edited half-hour conversations not only give you insights into the lives of Walt Disney (this week’s guest), Amelia Earhart (next week’s) and others, but also a chance to see some of the area’s best historical performers do their thing. If you missed last week’s conversation with Harry S. Truman, it re-airs at 9:30 tonight on KCPT and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on digital KCPT2.

SATURDAY
“Head Games” (8 p.m., Science Channel) continues the trivialization of the once-austere Science Channel. This low-budget game show featuring Greg “His Generation’s Wink Martindale” Proops has three contestants guessing answers to multiple-choice and true/false questions of dubious importance. Will a 50-pound ball of Silly Putty bounce or explode when dropped from a building? Actually, it kind of bounce-explodes … but seeing as how questions are worth $200, why make a fuss? The top two guessers compete in a lightning round in which, alas, actual lightning is not used.
