Once upon a time, folks in these parts celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by wearing a green shirt and drinking a green beer. That was it.
My, how things have changed.
Kansas City now has one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the nation, and we also have a veritable parade of other parades and festivals celebrating the holiday. To say nothing of a slew of Irish-themed bars and restaurants in which to drink and eat.
Festivities begin with an event Thursday at the Bukaty Pop-up Gallery featuring art, food and the Elders, Kansas City’s favorite Irish band. The Elders will return with their annual Hoolie on March 12 at Knuckleheads.
March 12 also is the date for Snake Saturday, a big annual event in North Kansas City, and several other parades and festivals.
The biggest parade of them all, the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade, as always will be held on the holiday itself, March 17. It will begin at 11 a.m., and the route will go down Broadway in midtown.
