Smart and mobile health-care solutions

Cerner has turned its Smart Room into a Smart Semi.

The North Kansas City software company has packed an 18-wheeler with cutting-edge technology to take its vision of high-tech health care on the road.

Cerner and a number of technology partners built a Smart Room, the company’s name for technology-packed patient-care rooms, in a semitrailer that will tour the country this year.

The Smart Room includes a demonstration of the Cerner CareAware myStation, which gives patients a computer station with access to their medical records, data about their doctors and nurses, Internet access, movies and even video games.

The trailer also will offer a demo of Cerner’s RxStation, an automated medication dispensing cabinet, and the latest in waiting rooms.

The Smart Semi, which is on display at the Cerner campus this week, will visit more than 40 cities between now and December.
