Noteworthy | Hawker Beechcraft closing Salina plant

More News

This week

Economist Chris Kuehl will discuss the difference between recession and recovery on Wednesday. See Business Calendar, C19.

Plant closing

Business jet manufacturer Hawker Beechcraft Corp. is closing its Salina, Kan., operation. The Wichita-based company announced the decision Monday and said it hasn’t set a timetable. Its lease of buildings at Salina Airport expires in 2012.

Hawker Beechcraft employs about 240 people in Salina, down from about 500 a year ago. The plant builds wings, spar assemblies and other subassemblies. Hawker Beechcraft CEO Bill Boisture had said in October that the company probably would close the Salina plant and move the work to Wichita.

For new markets

Kansas City-based Travois New Markets has received $80 million in New Markets Tax Credits from the U.S. Treasury. They are part of a $5 billion program to encourage investments in projects or businesses in low-income areas.

Travois, a certified community development entity, said that it would use its allocation to help fund economic development projects in American Indian communities that export goods and services and meet local needs.
