Wichita East student’s petition for special-needs student recognition draws more than 27,000 signatures

Wichita East students who participate on the special-needs basketball team are awarded a letter, but one that looks different than the one for varsity athletes. East High principal Ken Thiessen said Saturday that Michael Kelley was not told to remove his jacket and that any interaction happened a year ago.

The Royals granted veteran infielder Ryan Roberts his unconditional release, shortly after manager Ned Yost informed him he would not break camp as a member of the opening day roster. The team wanted to give Roberts a chance to catch on with another team before the season begins.
