KC community seeks justice for murdered child and mother

It’s been a year since Myeisha Turner and her 3-year-old daughter, Damiah White, were killed in their Kansas City home. Dozens of community members, public officials and police officers gathered Friday morning at a central city park to plead for someone to step forward and put a child killer behind bars.


Redevelopment of Power & Light Building is a go

Redevelopment of the historic Kansas City Power & Light Co. skyscraper has cleared its last major obstacle, clearing the way for renovation to begin in October that will create more than 200 apartments. The Planned Industrial Expansion Authority on Thursday approved a 25 year property-tax incentive package on the improved value of the mostly-vacant 36-story tower at 14th Street and Baltimore Avenue.


Firm reviewing UMKC rankings has worked many years for university system

Rather than hire an outside firm with no ties to the university to look into what Gov. Jay Nixon called “troubling” findings by The Star, the University of Missouri System’s board of curators turned to the same accounting firm that has served as the system’s internal auditor for many years.
