Royals sign right-hander Kris Medlen to two-year contract worth $8.5 million guaranteed

A day after they were closing in on an agreement with one free-agent starting pitcher, the Royals formally announced the signing of another. Former Braves right-hander Kris Medlen, who missed the 2014 season while recovering from the second elbow-ligament replacement surgery of his career, joined the Royals on a two-year contract with a mutual option for 2017.
