Kansas City’s lost generation of baseball fans to witness first playoff game

From the fall of 1985 to the final days of 1986, a group of children were born into Kansas City baseball, resigned to a life of errant cutoff throws and the longest postseason drought in North America. Today, they are homeowners and entrepreneurs, lawyers and architects, college basketball coaches and high school history teachers. And on Tuesday night, they will witness playoff baseball for the first time.


NFL says Chiefs’ Husain Abdullah shouldn’t have been penalized for slide, prayer in end zone

The Chiefs’ Husain Abdullah returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown Monday night, slid on his knees and bowed in prayer. His celebration drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, but the NFL said Tuesday that Abdullah should not have been penalized. The Council on American-Islamic Relations issued a statement asking that the NFL take steps in response to the penalty.

Police discovered the body of a missing Arkansas real estate agent in a shallow grave Tuesday, and a man arrested in connection with her kidnapping is expected to be charged in the death, authorities said. Investigators found the body of real estate agent Beverly Carter, 49, Tuesday at Argos Concrete Company in a rural area about 25 miles northeast of Little Rock.


Sprint owner’s pursuit of DreamWorks boosts stock 30 percent

Shares of DreamWorks Animation rose almost 30 percent on Monday after news of a proposed acquisition by Japanese telecommunications giant SoftBank Corp. SoftBank, which controls Overland Park-based Sprint Corp. and recently dropped a bid to acquire T-Mobile US Inc., has offered to buy the studio for $32 a share, according to a person familiar with the talks.
