As the 11:15 a.m. parade start time grew close, moms and dads focused on their duties as pit crew team members, hustling to outfit the rigs in tricolor crepe paper, tinsel garland, spangled bows and cardboard stars, all under the supervision of their children. “Life is all about having fun, and VillageFest is a great way of bringing the community together,” Carey Bickford said.


Royals fans will learn Sunday whether their All-Star ballot-box stuffing was successful

Royals fans gladly stuffed the online ballot box for the 2015 American League All-Star team, and the final update had five Kansas City players — catcher Salvador Perez, shortstop Alcides Escobar, outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon and second baseman Omar Infante — in line to start in the game, which will be played July 14 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Major League Baseball will reveal the A.L. and National League starting lineups Sunday, and Royals fans will know whether their efforts paid off.
